El Segrià, The Land of Blossom - Free route - Montoliu de Lleida
Free route. A route through the Hortes de Montoliu (orchard and market gardening area): ‘Un pom de blancor’. The ‘Un pom de blancor’ route runs through the orchards of Montoliu de Lleida, an areas in which the cultivation of pear trees predominates. In the blossom season this landscape is characterised by what is known locally as ‘Un pom de blancor’ (a knob of whiteness), due to the visual effect of the landscape being covered in a tapestry of white flowers on a green background, and the way in which the blossom is grouped together in small clusters, or knobs. This is also a route for waterways, as it follows the service paths of the irrigation ditches and canals that have converted this area into fertile, arable land. Visitors will also cross the Patamolls de Montoliu, which is an area of natural marshes, where bird-life abounds. This is a perfect route to do from the end of March to the beginning of April. It is 3.7 km long.
