There will be a race of several days.

This trail will be the 2024 Spanish Hike&Fly Championship.

This is a paragliding discipline that combines trail running and hiking with free flight and will be held for the first time in the skies above the capital of L’Alta Ribagorça.

David Polo, race director and pilot of the Alioth Parapent Bages Club of Manresa, said that they had chosen this area for this unique competition “because we want to root it in the territory and our intention is to position it as one of the best races in the world, which would make this an official flight zone”.

The route is fixed via a series of mandatory crossing points which are marked with a GPS so that participants can follow it by paragliding or running, as if it were a mountain race. The fact that the paraglider is flexible and ultralight means that it is compact and can be carried by just one person. This is something that is not possible with any other type of aircraft.

The maximum participation at El Pont de Suert is expected to be 70 pilots because, as David Polo says, “safety is the most important thing. In fact, the participation in these races is usually 48 pilots and in France, where the most prestigious events are held, the number of competitors does not exceed 60”. All of the pilots must have an assistant and the only two basic rules are that participants cannot go through a tunnel or move from one place to another using any form of vehicle.

David Polo, the race director, wants to position this event as “one of the best races in the world”.

Before the competition, there will be a demonstration of how to inflate a paragliding sail, with schoolchildren and disabled people, and all the associated services, such as food and prizes made by local artisans from the area, will be km 0.
